On adapting to the COVID-19 crisis:

During this period we changed our program about Nightingale Challenge in Niguarda Hospital, in Milan. We are collecting written and video from Nurses and Midwives and we are sharing this on hospital’s social channels. We are asking to nurses and midwives about their experiences and their leadership during COVID-19 emergency.

What are the main challenges your nurses are facing right now?

The main challenges are to face tiredness, stress, patients’ death and patient’s sufferance, continuous changes in wards and organization, fear for themselves and for relatives.

How are you overcoming these challenges?

Hospital trained them with specific courses, did new nurse hiring, organized meetings with psychologists for health workers.

How are your nurses adapting?

Some nurses are in difficult to face this situation, specially nurses who became positive to Coronavirus. Some nurses are scared and angry for the complicated situation in the wards. There is also a good collaboration between nurses and nurses and other health-workers. There is a very important support from the expert nurses to beginner nurses.
