Campaign supporters

Nursing Now is a global campaign with support from a wide range of individual influencers, health bodies and nursing organisations.

The campaign is run in collaboration with the World Health Organization and International Council of Nurses; it is a programme of the Burdett Trust for Nursing.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) aims to build a better, healthier future for people all over the world, working through offices in more than 150 countries.

As part of its health workforce programme, the WHO currently focuses on: ensuring nursing’s place within effective health systems, improving policy development and leadership, maximising opportunities for nurses and mobilising political will around nursing.

Recognising the critical role that nurses play in providing health care, in October 2017, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, appointed Elizabeth Iro from the Cook Islands as WHO’s Chief Nursing Officer.

International Council of Nurses

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the more than 20 million nurses worldwide. ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all and sound health policies globally. ICN works to enhance the health of individuals, populations, and societies by championing the contribution and image of nurses worldwide; advocating for nurses at all levels; advancing the nursing profession; and influencing health, social, economic and education policy.

ICN also leads on International Nurses Day, which in 2018 will focus on nursing’s role in ensuring the human right to health.

Burdett Trust for Nursing

The Burdett Trust for Nursing was established in 2002 with the aim of making charitable grants to support the nursing contribution to healthcare.

Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation

The Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (CNMF), founded in 1973, is a federation of national nursing and midwifery associations in Commonwealth countries. The CNMF exists to: influence health policy throughout the Commonwealth, develop nursing networks, enhance nursing education, improve nursing standards and competence, and strengthen nursing leadership.

Florence Nightingale Foundation 

The Florence Nightingale Foundation works to improve patient care through the provision of scholarships for nurses, midwives and other health professionals.

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation fosters path-breaking scientific discovery, environmental conservation, patient care improvements, and preservation of the special character of the Bay Area. The Foundation provides nurses with education and training to improve the experience and outcomes of patient care through the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at University of California, Davis.

Health Education England

Health Education England (HEE) exists for one reason only: to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place.

ICAP, Columbia University 

Situated at Columbia University, ICAP works to ensuring the wellness of families and communities by strengthening health systems. With its roots in comprehensive, family-focused HIV services, ICAP is known for capacity building and for its innovative, effective, and ethical programs that are implemented in the most challenging resource-limited settings.

International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research

The International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR) supports community nurses worldwide through its international network of nurse researchers, international conferences, fund raising activities and scholarships for community health care nursing research in Lower and Middle Income Countries to advance and share knowledge and evidence based practice of community health care nursing.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is a leading innovator, convener, partner, and driver of results in health and health care improvement worldwide. IHI’s professional development programmes include the IHI Open School and it is currently offering free resources for nurse and midwives for an introduction to quality improvement.

IntraHealth International

IntraHealth International works with countries around the world to make sure their health workers are trained, supported, and ready to do the job. IntraHealth’s vision is is that everyone everywhere has the health care they need to thrive.

Jhpiego 

Jhpiego works with health experts, governments and community leaders to improve the health of women and families in developing countries. Affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, Jhpiego educates and prepares front-line health workers (doctors, nurses, midwives and community health workers) with evidence-based skills and techniques to deliver quality health care.

KPMG

KPMG is a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services. KPMG operates in 152 countries and works with global and small national clients alike.

National Academy of Medicine 

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) is an independent organisation of eminent professionals from diverse fields including health and medicine; the natural, social, and behavioural sciences; and beyond. Through its domestic and global initiatives, the NAM works to address critical issues in health, medicine, and related policy and inspire positive action across sectors.

National University of Singapore  

The National University of Singapore is the only institution in Singapore to offer academic nursing degree programmes. Helping underpin the campaigning activity of Nursing Now, NUS is due to lead a study on the impact and further potential of community nursing in high-income countries.

NHS Horizons

The NHS Horizons team work within the National Health Service in England, supporting frontline staff to do their jobs better. The team is currently exploring ways of transitioning to a situation of greater flexibility. They also host the NHS School for Change Agents, which is available for free online.

Royal College of Nursing

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is the world’s largest nursing union and professional body, representing more than 435,000 nurses, student nurses, midwives and health care assistants in the UK and internationally.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations reproductive health and rights agency. The agency’s mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
