Dr Zabalegui has 17 years of clinical practice, including seven in Spain at the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra and ten in New York in the area of Oncology Nursing.
She was the Assistant Director of Nursing at New York City Bellevue Hospital and the Dean of Nursing School at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC).
Dr Zabalegui has worked as a Lecturer in the Nursing programs and associate professor in the Post-graduate and Official Master’s Degree programs of the Universities of Alicante, Huelva, Almería, Rovira i Virgili, Lleida and the University of Barcelona, and in the Doctoral Programs in Nursing at the University of Alicante and Castellon, and at the European Doctorate of the EANS at University of York (UK), Leuven University (Belgum), Turku University (Finland), Lund University (Sweden), Leuven (Belgium), Neijemen (The Netherlands) financed by the Marie Curie program and the European Science Foundation (ESF, EU) in Rennes (France), Halle (Germany), Malmo (Sweden).
