This program is part of Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. We are involved in the treatment of children with cancer and hematologic disorders in 3 African countries- Botswana, Uganda and Malawi. As the Director of Nursing for Global HOPE I am responsible for the training and specialization of nurses in these 3 countries. All of our nurses caring for children with cancer and hematology patients are enrolled in our education courses developed to teach nurses the specialty of pediatric oncology and hematology nursing. These online courses are completed as part of their training. In addition, 9 nurses are in the Global HOPE Nursing Leadership program designed to prepare nurses as the leaders of tomorrow in pediatric oncology nursing in Sub-Saharan Africa.
25 nurses and midwives have been enrolled on this leadership development programme.
