The Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment in Dominica wishes to express gratitude for this opportunity to improve health care delivery of its nurses and nurse midwives through this outstanding initiative; Nursing Now- Nightingale Challenge.
We are indeed appreciative for the suggested programmes aimed towards leadership, and development for nurses and midwives aged 35 or under. However due to country’s population and total number of nurses and nurse midwives we will be extending programs to all nurses and nurse midwives in the island with particular emphasis on those 35 years or under.
We have decided to embark on mixed formal courses, mentoring, coaching, shadowing and learning from other professionals or sectors as part of the programs plan.
Below are some of the programs as per suggestions that will be tailored to meet our needs in Dominica.
- Pair nurses and nurse midwives aged 35 years and under with executive mentors within the profession in the government services and none government services.
- Organize leadership seminars with prominent figures locally and regionally.
- Host interactive sessions with management staff locally to give young nurses and nurse midwives insight into management of the health system.
- Arrange a special visit to cabinet to learn on how government deliberates on nursing matters.
- Recognition ceremony for nurses and nurse midwives in areas of leadership and management.
30 nurses and midwives have been enrolled in the leadership development programme.
