60 nurses and midwives have been enrolled in the leadership development programme.
The nurses work in and with the communities, in addition they supervise the same health workers, these being the ones of community and mobile medical units, where the strengths in the promotion and prevention of health are highlighted. More needs to be done to support nurses as leaders in policies and practices. It is not enough to raise nurses to positions of responsibility; They also need to receive the support and training necessary to assume these roles successfully. The purpose of this document is to present an implementation strategy to allow the introduction of the expanded role of nursing in Primary Health Care.
