Lisbeth Hockey Inaugural Memorial Lecture
ICCHNR was founded in 1995 by Professor Lisbeth Hockey to improve the quality of
health care and community nursing practice through research and promote awareness of
the contribution of community health care nursing to healthy public policies and alliances
throughout the world.
We were delighted to hold the inaugural Lisbeth Hockey Memorial Lecture in her
honour earlier this month. Our joint hosts were the University of Edinburgh and the Queen’s Nursing Institute, Scotland. The memorial lecture took place online on Wednesday 1st December 2020, with the lecture provided by Prof Anne Marie Rafferty, RCN President.

Mary McClymont Scholarship Awards
ICCHNR is committed to supporting community nursing in economically developing countries, through our international network of nurse researchers, international conferences and fundraising activities.
In September 2020 three community nurses from Africa were awarded a Mary McClymont scholarship to undertake research in their local communities. The scholars are: 1) Gillian Akoto Donkor, Ghana 2) Ellen Nkambule, Malawi 3) Nomzamo Angeline Buthelezi, South Africa. Full details of the awardees and the application process are on our website.
Launch of the One Minute Wash-up
The 1-Minute Wash-up invites community nurse researchers to present their work in one
minute – the length of time needed to follow WHO guidance to properly wash our hands
and one of the most important ways to protect against Covid-19. A wash-up is a pause for
reflection at the end of a project to identify future actions to take forward. The purpose of
the Wash-up is to showcase compelling accounts of community nursing research as part
of our support for Nursing Now in the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife 2020-2021.
The One Minute Wash-up was launched at the Lisbeth Hockey Memorial Lecture on 1st December, 2020 and will run for one year. See www.icchnr.org for further guidance on how to submit your project.
